Describe the difference between mitosis and meiosis. Include one way that they are alike and one way that they are different.

Mitosis and meiosis are both types of cell division and they both produce new cells, and they also both go through the same basic steps (prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase). They are different because mitosis produces 2 new cells and meiosis produces 4 new cells. Also, mitosis produces clones of cells while meiosis produces genetically different cells. In addition, the number of chromosomes in the cell does not change with mitosis and in meiosis, so the number of chromosomes is reduced by half.
