A couple of hundred years ago powerful Westerners brought opium to them to trade for tea. Their people got addicted, their society suffered, and their economy suffered. They tried to stop it, and got their butt kicked in a war and were forced to buy the opium. Now, they are getting even by destroying manufacturing in western nations, driving up their trade imbalance, buying up their debt, and making them the slaves.
