I don't know whether to argue if the success or failure of Garrison in achieving his goals or the goals of his abolitionist movement in improving the lives of Americans

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On one hand, he fought for immediate emancipation of slavery and called for dangerous ideas like the disunion between south and north, but also prove that freedom of speech was the right of man including women? --> liberty party..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to make the right argument. so would it be a good argument to argue that he was a bad reformer in that his ideas were too radical??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

helpp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im still struggling ): i need a clear thesis.. before i can write my essay. But i don't know what to argue.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think it would be a good idea to call him a "bad" reformer or too radical. Sure it might be a bit radical for you, but he still was pretty good when it came to equal rights. So therefore, it might be better to just discuss how he helped African Americans and women. Do you have to argue that he is a bad reformer or is it a choice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's a choice.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like the essay is about recommending students to a university. And let's say the students are the "reformers" you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i either have to recommend garrison, not recommend, or in between

OpenStudy (anonymous):

based on his successfulness or failures.. i have to evaluate garrison (like an actual student) for his recommendation to this university

OpenStudy (anonymous):

compared to other reformers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like i read good things about frederick douglass, sadly, i didn't get him.. otherwise it would be a clear argument to recommend him

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but if i do recommend him, how can i argue against his radicalism? like his ideas were to dangerous, why would a university accept him for his ideas like disunion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

although i do agree that he is essential to the abolitionist movement.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, well Douglass would be easier I think to recommend. He believed in educating African Americans so they can improve their lives. I think he also wanted women to vote, but it was risky since support for African American voting was low.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nothing too radical that would make it hard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

however, i cant do douglass... cause i wasn't assigned to him ! -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im pretty sure that garrison also pushed for women rights. he was one of the unique abolitionists who did that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i DO recommend him. How should i structure this essay? for like the topic of each of my body paragraphs.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that for one body paragraph. i can talk about how he use his freedom of speech and press

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in the second one, i can talk about how he worked hard to extend the rights of the minorities (women and blacks)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i want to combine women and blacks cause there isn't a whole lot to write about besides analysis.. so that would be my minority paragraph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe for the third, it can be the rebuttal to his radical ideas. but how can i rebute his radicalism? xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You could have one paragraph for his radical views where you just state what you might disagree with. Then after that, you could have a paragraph for good things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it a five paragraph thing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. most of what we write are 5 paragraphs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what what should my thesis be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i argue that he has some good and bad points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Something like: William Lloyd Garrison was a great abolitionist, however he had some views I disagree with.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Might work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah okay, thanks for your input ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just needed like someone to check if i was thinking of garrison as the guy he is XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok. Good luck with your essay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
