OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know of program files, document files, text files, multimedia files but i do not really know how to give the explanation on each. please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just give the explanation of those and others if possible

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

read the man page for ls man ls BTW, there's seven types of files: regular, directory, link, pipe, socket, block device and character device.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please can you define each?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and which did i give above?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, is it a Windows based file type or a *NIX based file type that you need? They are similar, but a little different.

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

The above files were all regular files. The seven that I mentioned are the seven file types on a Unix system. I have no idea, and could care less, what Windows has.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Smith, it is basically the type of data contained in the file on Windows systems.
