During the summer, one of the most popular sports activity is surfing. Surfing takes place on the surface of the water where the surfer moves along a breaking wave. Catching waves can be done with two kinds of surfboards: a longboard or a shortboard. The surfboard had to be light enough to carry as well as strong enough to hold a person. Longboard Longboards are the traditional surfboards. They were first created in Hawaii. The first ones were made from local trees on the island. Through the years, the boards have become lighter with new material. These surfboards can be eight feet or longer and usually have a single fin. The fin allows the surfer to steer. The length of the board is good for a beginner because it can catch a lot of waves. Shortboard Shortboards have only been around for about 40 years. They are about six feet and weigh less than longboards. In addition, these boards have pointed noses and can have different number of fins. The fins give the surfer quicker movements in the water. However, because of the size of the boards, it is more difficult to hold up a person. Also, since waves are harder to catch with a shortboard, the waves need to be powerful. Which text structure did the writer use to organize this passage? classification because the topic of surfboards is divided into subtopics definition because the surfboard fin is defined and its shape is described cause and effect because the effects of breaking waves are described compare and contrast because a hard wave is compared to a soft one
