In the summer of 1998, scientists noticed that the water in the Delta River was beginning to decrease. It was slowing business in the small town of Gus. The scientists could not figure out how that was possible. The area had record rainfall that year. Scientists tested the water to see if there was anything different about it, but there was nothing wrong with it. Then, they began to look at sources for these problems. They finally found a reason upstream in the west fork. There, the scientists found that beavers had created a dam that significantly blocked the water flow to the Delta River. As a result, very little water managed to flow downstream. To fix this problem, the local zoo keepers carefully removed beavers. They placed the beavers in a new location. Finally, the locals could tear down the dam that had put the town back into business. Which sentence from the passage shows the cause and the effect of an event? The area had record rainfall that year. The scientists could not figure out how that was possible. They placed the beavers in a new location. As a result, very little water managed to flow downstream.
