it produces air pollution The main reason why people are hesitant to use nuclear energy is because they are worried about safety. Since the 1986 Chernobyl incident there have been another 22 major nuclear power accidents. The primary reason is a lack of understanding by the public as to the safety of the power. The storage issues with the waste. Most of France is powered by nuclear (over 90%). Many other countries are very pro nuclear. Strong lobby groups inside the United States prevent this clean and cheap power from being exploited. That is a shame.

OpenStudy (frostbite):

@DominantVampire "it produces air pollution" You do know that the nuclear fission heats up water, creating steam which simply drives turbines? The only reason people are scared is due to the high radiation damage if a meltdown occurs, and those that has happened through out history has only happened due to 1) Untrained staff (Chernobyl) 2) Lack of safety procedures (Three mile island & Fukushima) Today's nuclear power plants are more safe than ever and currently there are being tested with nuclear fusion-fission hybrid reactors which can get rid of the problem with the disposal of nuclear waste.
