Can someone help me with this assignment? The R1\R2 is confusing me. I attached a scanned copy of the assignment. I think critiquing wise, I understand what the "Suggested Proof" had done incorrectly, but correctly starting me is confusing me as well. Help, please?

Also, I understand the "Suggest Proof"'s proof until the very last line. I don't understand how they concluded (y,x) is in R1 but (y,x) is not in R2.
