I need help understanding some things with trig can please help. Factor the trig expression and simplify: sin^2x+sin^2x+cot^2x
well you can add the 2 like terms sin^2 x + sin^2x + cot^2 x = 2sin^2 x + cot^2 x
oh I totally didnt notice that thank you
that as far as you can go , I think
Its multiple choice and thats not one of the choices so it has to simplify furter
I think I got it let me draw it out one second
hum i cant see how have you got the choices? maybe i missed something
never mind I was thinking about something else:/
Its a work sheet and it says the answers could be sin^2x+1 or 1 or cot^2x+1 or cot^2x-1
r u sure its cot^2 x and not cos^2 x?
yes im sure
because sin^2 x + cos^2 x = 1
I know I wish it was that simple but my teacher is mean lol
Can I make cot tan by flipping it
Or do I need common denominators to add?
you can write it as 2 sin^2 x + cos^2 x ------ sin^2 x but i dont think that helps much
If I flip 2sin^2 it makes it csc and one of the identities is 1+cot^2=csc^2 would that help?
