Why did Parliament believe the colonists would accept the Tea Act of 1773?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They believed they would accept the tea act because at that time, England barely taxed the colonies at all. In fact, the taxes in England were 3x more than that of the colonies. So they thought that the colonists wouldn't protest to a little bit more in taxation. But of course the colonies felt used and upset that a completely uninvolved government could just tax them whenever they needed/wanted.
