I am getting this: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=Calculate+-10%2b24i&incTime=true It is saying that the result is -10+24i is that right? Do the lines on the outside of the -10+24i effect anything?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

The "lines outside" signify the MAGNITUDE of the complex number. You must calculate it. Try a Pythagorean Theorem on for size.

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

@tkhunny don't you use Pythagorean Theorem for triangles?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the magnitude of a complex number relates to trigonometry .... what is the geometry of triangles.
