Identify items in your life that are made of each type of element: metal, nonmetal, and metalloid. For each item, explain why the properties of that type of element are necessary for the function of that item. Example: Metal: My curling iron has metal in its wires and on the barrel of the iron. The metal wires are necessary to conduct electricity and the metal on the barrel is necessary to conduct the heat that causes my hair to curl. Metal: Nonmetal: Metalloid:

Talking about the main groups, the first, second and third groups are filled by metals and from the fourth to the eighth, by non-metals. I would say that non metals (hydrogen and Oxygen) are the most abundant. Metalloids are elements that have characteristics of both metals and non-metals.

Some of the metalloids are Arsenic, Germanium and Boron.

Their symbols are As, Ge and B, respectively.

Metal - the legs of my classroom's tables are made up of iron to give it resistance and strength. Non-metal - the air that we breath with is called Oxygen Metalloid - The layers of soler panels are made out of Silicon, because it has a very high temperature and resistance to weathering or degradation.
