During a visit to a Psych Ward (as a visitor, not a patient), it seemed to be a prevailing direction to "Suicide Watch" patients that they were allowed to commit suicide if they could figure out how to do it without making a mess for someone else to clean up. Point being: It might seem entirely immoral or unethical to tell someone with suicidal tendencies that it was okay to carry out the task, but since the terms and conditions could not be solved, the instruction seem to prevent many from acting. This allowed some to live long enough to get the help they needed to live long and happy lives.
it is argued that suicide raises a lot of ethical/moral questions : for example - what motivates suicidal thoughts - do originate from self-centered thoughts or do they originate without any particular cause, but rather as a result of chemical make-up. Because suicide takes place within communities we must also consider moral/ethical issues related to the community in which the suicide takes place.
