The mean absolute deviation of a set of data is the average distance between each data value and the mean. 1. Find the mean. 2. Find the distance between each data value and the mean. That is, find the absolute value of the difference between each data value and the mean. 3. Find the average of those differences.

Step 1: Add all them up, and divide by how many there are (there are 5). Step 2: Subtract each number by the number found in step 1. Step 3: Add all the numbers up in step 2, then divide by how many there are (again, there are 5).
