OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

Open study seriously needs less script and stuff...it slows down the website a whole lot. This website needs to be more effective than pretty. And also, fix that loading glitch, where opesntudy just never loads the questions and keeps giving you the loading symbol forever.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats so true

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I agree about fixing the lag. I don't agree that the script should be less. OS is not really that pretty in the first place. It's basically a bunch of boxes.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

The scrip slows it down a whole lot, it needs to be cut down a little. And interms of coding (css or bootstrap or what ever they used) it looks very pretty. All the little animations and pop ups can be downsized a little. Also. The chats.....god please fix them.....they're terrible....and do some sort of vote kick thing on them....because there can be some seriously annoying people on them.....

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

And this site loses connection with me every 2 seconds....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same here

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Yeah. OS has some problems.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

A lot...and it has such good potential too ;-;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

Loop

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

if you have infininte loading its the loop and you need a new account if you have exessive load times its called the loading wheel of doom

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

obviously is not the loop! XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with you! It is so frustrating sometimes

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

@Jaynator495, no you don't need a new account. I restarted my comp and now it works fine.....its happened to me multiple times....

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

@Jaynator495 is right u would need a new account till its fixed my account is stuck in an infinate loop

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

@kidrah69 It just happened to me like 30 mins ago.....

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

its been happening to my account for a day now...

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

I'm sure your problem is in this script.....I'm sure of it.... http://assets.openstudy.com/javascripts/base-libs.js?e7599182bcb628c5a6b47b1d80a4c3bc:1

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I don't want to click the link until I'm sure it's safe.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

@kidrah69 Do you know who posted the harmful link in the chats?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Let me take it to the PM's. Sorry.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

@confluxepic its an openstudy link, it wont do anything, it just displays the script.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Okay.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Wow. That's some huge script.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

the harmful link was posted in the math chat

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

But who posted it?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

no naming and shaming :)

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Ok.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

Yea, twords the end it starts talking about the bans and all that stuff, i dont think thats a problem....

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

i dont understand those kinds of things,,,scripts and all

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

It's the code.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

That makes this website.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

Neither do I but if you look closesly, it starts writes the prompt that you see when youre banned, telling you to read the CoC and TaCs

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

@omarbirjas The problem wasn't the script. It was a harmful link.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

Well most of the website at least....this is everything that you can see...

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

wait....pooja...you clicked on a link???? gimmeee pleeaseee, i wanna see what it is....

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

it was a link to the subject which broke my account

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

Hey, i found a solution...i think...but this is server side. http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/292613 get somebody to look at it...its a community based script...open source...

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

@e.mccormick is it okay to use?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

What does that do?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

How do you use it?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

^

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

And is it safe?

sammixboo (sammixboo):

PLease I'm begging you

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Most of this information you can find if you dig through old posts by the original developers: The original site was written by a largely student team. Now, what they put together had some pretty amazing points, but was not designed to scale. This was revised by a number of different developers to get it to be able to cluster properly. Now it is in the hands of a professional team and they have been fixing bugs, doing optimizations, and implementing a few new features. All of their work is aimed at making the site better and more financially viable so that it can continue to be redeveloped, improved, etc. The painful side of all this, well, you know. Not every revision has been successful. However, I have not seen a full blown Orange War in months. Site up time is far higher than before. Now we are looking at a large set of updates rolling out this weekend. I hope that all the other fixes, along with what they have done, will make the site better. I do not know if it will or will not. I just know what the goal is an have the best of hopes.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

@e.mccormik , it'd be better if you guys started from scratch....keep this website up until you have another one made out.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

@confluxepic @kidrah69 I don't know, thats why i said let a pro look over it and review it before you us it...I don't even know if it's that good...

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

@e.mccormick

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

The future OS generations might never experience the orange war. :D

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

Lucky them.....it's annoying when that happens.....

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

It is not practical to start from scratch without a viable interim.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

It would be practical performance wise. :P

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

Other then that... It serves no purpose and isn't needed as of this momment ._.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

Maybe not, but you'll have a much better website. You can collect a capital from your donors, and after that, set up a team to create a new website and give them cut of the money to work with. And if you want the best result, make it a payed job not something that people volunteer to do. Honestly, this website needs to be worked on performance wise, not on the css and bootstrap.....

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The programming staff is not volunteer. They are paid. However, development hours to do something like a new site are not trivial. In the last couple years, 5 or so groups have claimed they will do so and show up OpenStudy. We have not heard back from any of them. What you need is a reliable site that is profitable so that you then have the cash flow to allow the proper development of the replacment.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

And that's where finding the proper staff comes in. Btw, loving the new update..... However I dont think many people will be buying OwlBucks...most of us are broke students, remember? XD

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Staffing is not free. Also, they took a lot of time finding the present developers. The present ones are also the group that stopped the orange war. So I would say they have done a lot better than many of the past ones. Yes, I agree that the particular monetization they are working towards is not ideal. But there are other paid tutoring sites that succeed. So it is quite possible that it will help.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

User 23... sigh sleepy did you break all your other users x_x
