Will Fan and Medal!!!!! What's the rate of change between these numbers:(-12,12) --> (4, -4) (-9, 6) --> (3, -2) (-3, 12) --> (1, -4)

OpenStudy (lsdxmdmaddicthc):

Okay so you would set it up like this : y1 - y2 over x1 - x2 x1 and y1 must be the same coordinate pair same with y2 and x2 So for the first one you could plug it in like this 12 - (-4) over (-12) - 4 Solve to get 16/(-16) can be simplified to -1

OpenStudy (lsdxmdmaddicthc):

Do you understand now? You're basically solving for slope given two coordinate pairs.

Nnesha (nnesha):

rate of change = slope formula to find slope is \[\huge\rm m=\frac{ y_2 - y_1 }{ x_2- x_1 }\] in order pair first value is 2nd one is y \[\huge\rm (x_1 ,y_1)(x_2 ,y_2)\] replace variables by their values and then solve
