can someone help with financial algebra

OpenStudy (lsdxmdmaddicthc):

Okay, so the interest rate that the problem is asking for is actually going to be the increase in y and x. This is also known as slope. You'll notice as you increase in x value, your y value also increases

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the problem should clarify simple or compound interest. but simple is a good enough assumption to me.

OpenStudy (lsdxmdmaddicthc):

Actually you can look at it like this : At year 0, Jason's balance was 1218 In 4 years, his balanced increased to 1412.6 1412.6 - 1218 = 194.6 increase over a 4 year span 194.6/4 = 48.65 increase over a 1 year span His balance increased by 48.65$ each year

OpenStudy (lsdxmdmaddicthc):

I'm sorry but my brain decided to shut down for the night...I can't help you any more... Brain farts suck :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand that aspect but how will that lead to the answer?

@amistre64

Okay here we go, I had to review real quick. So we're going to use two amounts The first amount was Jason's initial investment At year 0 he had $1,218 After 4 years of interest he had $1,412.60 Acquired amount means the amount you have after receiving your interest. Jason's acquired amount would be $1412.60 Initial amount means the amount you have before receiving your interest. His initial amount would be $1218 Time means the length of time we are dealing with (4 years) rate = (1/time) (Acquired Amount/Initial Amount - 1) r = (1/t)(A/P - 1) Let's plug the numbers in r = (1/4) (1412.6/1218 - 1) Solve this r = 0.03994253 Convert r to a percentage r* 100 = 3.99% per year Round that up to 4% and there's your answer

A rare bacterial culture is being grown in a lab. As the days progress, the cells multiply and grow. After 1 day, there is only 1 cell. After 2 days, there are 9 cells. After 3 days, there are 20 cells. After 4 days, there are 34 cells. Which recursive equation represents the pattern? an = an – 1 + 3n an = an – 1 + n + 2) an = an – 1 + 3(n + 2) an = an – 1 + (3n + 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got the first one but I am not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question marks btw are subtraction signs

OpenStudy (lsdxmdmaddicthc):

I have no idea...Is that all the info they give you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup
