Question

I went to a Starbucks a few days ago on the west side and sat down at a communal table. Everyone around me was furiously typing on their phone or tablet. I looked around and just chuckled inside. This is really the world we all want? It makes it impossible to connect with the people right around us. To start a conversation. How can you do that when everyone is so busily occupied? There really is something wrong with this picture, as there is with the idea of an online friendship in which the two friends -- or at least one of the two -- have no interest in meeting in person.

What does the word friend actually mean? There is always some vulnerability in any real relationship, I think. Honestly, I don't see all of this ending very well, if this trend continues. Frankly, I'm glad that I may not be here to see it.
