OpenStudy (chosenmatt):

Selma wants to know if seventh grade students prefer to do their math homework in silence or with background music. She polled the 24 students in her music class. Eight students preferred to do their math homework in silence, and sixteen students preferred to do their math homework with background music. Is there a sampling bias in the situation above? Yes. Selma is only curious about 7th grade students, but 6th grade students may prefer background music too. No. Selma picked a completely random sample for her study. Yes. Students in the music class will probably enjoy listening to music more than other students.

"Selma wants to know if seventh grade students prefer to do their math homework in silence or with \(\bf background~ music\). She polled the 24 students in her \(\bf music\) class."

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So do you think there is any bias in that?

OpenStudy (chosenmatt):

so the first one?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Do you think it is biased if you go to all of your math teachers and ask them if they like math? And then report that all teachers like math. Is that biased or not biased?

OpenStudy (chosenmatt):

so am i right?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

No.

OpenStudy (chosenmatt):

i have 1 min left please help!1

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

She asked kids in her \(\bf Music\) class if they like to listen to music... isn't that seem biased to you?
