then what is the difference between a terminating and a repeating decimal?

some decimals like that equal to 1/3 are non terminating and go on infinitely
1/3 = 0.3333.........
and are sometimes written as

terminating may go on for a lot of digits but they do stop sometime repeating never stop
0.33333333 is a terminating decimal
but 0.3333333.... is repeating
