Quick question. What is a terminating decimal? Can I also get an example?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

one which has a finite number of digits after the decimal point eg 0.3 , 0.1212

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then what is the difference between a terminating and a repeating decimal?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

some decimals like that equal to 1/3 are non terminating and go on infinitely 1/3 = 0.3333......... and are sometimes written as |dw:1427570447403:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so repeating is the same numbers repeating and terminating is more but they go on too?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

terminating may go on for a lot of digits but they do stop sometime repeating never stop 0.33333333 is a terminating decimal but 0.3333333.... is repeating
