What is your personal opinion on pompe disease?
I believe Pompe Disease is a rare disorder that affects people uniquely. From the looks of it, it sounds painful and a slow death.
I've heard that Pompe Disease is something that people usually do not get at all. I heard that it is very scary to then wait until death. Like imagine if you are really young then that will be sad, if you were old it will be sad too, but will make sense.
@learningtime1234 Pompe Disease is a RARE disorder...
Yes i do know about it, just forgot to mention it, sorry
its glycogen storage disease
the cell is unable to break down glycogen thus there is glycogen accumulation in all cells
since glucose which is a monomer of glycogen is our metabolic sugar, source of energy, so we need it constantly, but to balance the levels, our body converts not atm needed glucose to glycogen now when we need glucose now, sadly in pompe's case, we cant convert glycogen to glucose, thus cells starve, and glycogen is accumulated in the cell this in turn causes a lot of problems in entire body because of its own functional/metabolic importance
it effects heart- high risk of heart related problems it effects muscles- body weakens it effects nerves also - and may cause neurodegenerative disease
it causes a lot more chaos in the body, i mentioned just some
@somy thank you. i know what it is. i was just curious what your personal opinion was on the disease
its a genetic disease that is passes on from generation to other generation thus just it being genetic makes it bad enough to not wish anyone who is close to you to have it Glycogen is our main energy storage system if there is something wrong it won't just effect certain parts of the body but the entire body cells because all of our cells use glycogen and mainly the organs that act as storage system (such as liver) will be severely effected and can cause fetal outcomes
so it being genetic means there is no cure...which makes it tough at least now there is no cure, hopefully we will be able to deal with these genetic disorders in future :)
