Factoring help! X^3 !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x^3-2x^2-8x\], How do I find factor of something like this?

OpenStudy (radar):

Extract the x which is common to all terms getting x(x^2 - 2x -8) now factor that 2nd factor\[x ^{2}-2x-8\]

OpenStudy (radar):

It will factor nicely.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, I will try to work it out, gimmie moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x*(x-2)(x+4)

OpenStudy (radar):

Trying is half (or even more) of it. I'll be here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that right? x(x-2)(x+4)

OpenStudy (radar):

Got a sign problem you want a -2x what you wrote will give a +2x

OpenStudy (radar):

You're almost there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, reversed, damn, I have got it that way on ppaper!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just swap + with - and - with + so x(x+2)(x-4)

OpenStudy (radar):

Excellent. A medal for you for you effort and success.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you a lot. Have a nice day.

OpenStudy (radar):
