OpenStudy (phi):

Have you learned about 30-60-90 triangles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (phi):

a triangle with 30-60-90 degree angles is special if the the longest side is X , then the shortest leg is X/2 and the middle sized leg is sqrt(3) * X/2

OpenStudy (phi):

in your triangle, how long is the longest side ?

OpenStudy (phi):

are you stuck figuring how long the longest side is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i am having internet probs but the longer side is 16?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. and the rule is the *shortest side* is 1/2 the longest side what is the shortest side ?

OpenStudy (phi):

if the longest side is 16, and the shortest side is 1/2 as big, how long is the shortest side? (I would divide by 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 16 divided by 2? i really appologize this sight sucks with internet

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, the shortest side is 16/2 which is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8

OpenStudy (phi):

finally, the middle side (which is labeled x in your picture) is sqrt(3) times the shortest side what is the length of x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d ??

OpenStudy (phi):

what is confusing? short side is 8 middle side is 8 * sqrt(3) x in your triangle is the middle side.

OpenStudy (phi):

Hopefully, if you see another 30-60-90 triangle, you can figure out how long each side is, if they tell you one of the sides

ok tysm
