Domain-specific academic vocabulary consists of relatively low-frequency, content-specific words that appear in textbooks and other instructional materials; for example, apex in math, escarpment in geography, and isobar in science Copied from http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/mar11/vol68/num06/A-Word-for-the-Words.aspx Basically means very rare and specific words, specific to the subject. Not 100% sure, but this is what I found... :)
