Figure ABD was created by drawing square ABCD and removing a quarter circle. What is the perimeter of figure ABD? Use 3.14 to approximate pi. ___________m http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1571000_1571500/1571376/1/77f1b6c0d76569779b0e945b0bbe4d5308239340/MS_IMB-1401212-1110904.jpg

@inowalst

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the hardest of them all

OpenStudy (inowalst):

These specific problems are hard for me soo maybe @TheSmartOne can help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just askin, what grade r u in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am in 7th

OpenStudy (inowalst):

I'm in 10th.

OpenStudy (inowalst):

In 10th, school-wise.. But I'm ahead of school.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool, i will tag u when i have a problem that is much easier to solve for u, but not for me :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it shall not be long

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TheSmartOne , do u mind helping ??

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx, so where do i start

OpenStudy (inowalst):

Thanks.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

First off, @o9gu2dwbcoiu3di \(\bf\huge~~~~\color{#ff0000}{W}\color{#ff2000}{e}\color{#ff4000}{l}\color{#ff5f00}{c}\color{#ff7f00}{o}\color{#ffaa00}{m}\color{#ffd400}{e}~\color{#bfff00}{t}\color{#80ff00}{o}~\color{#00ff00}{O}\color{#00ff40}{p}\color{#00ff80}{e}\color{#00ffbf}{n}\color{#00ffff}{S}\color{#00aaff}{t}\color{#0055ff}{u}\color{#0000ff}{d}\color{#2300ff}{y}\color{#4600ff}{!}\color{#6800ff}{!}\color{#8b00ff}{!}\\\bf ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Made~by~TheSmartOne\) Hey there!!! Since you are new here, read this legendary tutorial for new OpenStudiers!! http://goo.gl/5pp1u0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, i get the concept and the way things work around hear

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like no giving straight answers

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

They want us to find the perimeter of the ABD. So to find the perimeter, we have to add the lengths of all the sides. So I have outlined all the sides for ABD in the picture attached in \(\sf\color{red}{red}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright, and we already know that one side is 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how, and what now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OOOHHH, is it 54.72

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have been doing it while i was waiting :P

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So since it is a square, we already know that two of the side’s lengths are 24. We just need to calculate the length of the arc. So to do that, we will have to find the circumference of the circle and divide it by 4 which I outlined as \(\sf\color{blue}{blue}\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the method, it is actually quit simple, i will show u

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

I already know it too :P

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Hence, why I'm helping you :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is how I got the full answer. 1. 24*4=96 2. 48 *3.14= 150.72 3. 150.72-96= 54.72

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I AM SO STUPID OF NOT KNOW THAT!!!!!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Umm no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even though i already knew that, thank you so much for ur help

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

You got it almost correct, until the end.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummmmm...what???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i got it wrong, HOW??

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So we calculated the length of that side. And you got the correct value which is 150.72. But since it is 1/4 of a circle, we divide 150.72/4 = 37.68

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?!!? so 37.68 is the answer??

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

No, that is only the length of one side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow, did not see that coming , I was way off, thank goodness u r here to help me, anywho, since that is not the answer, i will keep listening

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And they asked for the perimeter, so we have to add the lengths of all three sides now \(\sf 37.68+24+24=?\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, i seem to be getting ahead of myself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

85.68 is what i got

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

It's ok, haha. But at least you got the concept :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, now what??

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Well that is your answer, nothing more to it :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, so 85.68 is it

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u mind helping me with one more?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will tag u

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Sure, I'll try :)
