if I had
\[\frac{ 3 }{ 2 }\]



you would say how many 2's go into 3
we know 2 goes into 3 once, then you have a remainder of 1, so we carry the 1 over the next number, so we have 10, 2 goes into 10 5 times

so you have a remainder of 0

therefore your answer is 1.5
since we had a decimal point after the 3
