Mindy wants to solve the following system using the elimination method: y = x – 4 y = 2x – 3 What number should the equation y = x – 4 be multiplied by to eliminate x? (4 points) –1 –2 –4 –6

OpenStudy (jack1):

hey @shadow2239

OpenStudy (jack1):

you want to eliminate x from this equation, y = x – 4 when you throw it in this equation, y = 2x – 3 so make them match 2y = 2x - 8 y = 2x - 3 now the x's match, and will eliminate

OpenStudy (matrixation):

-2

OpenStudy (matrixation):

You have to multiply the entire equation by -2 so that the x's cancel, hence eliminated which gives you an equation of only y.
