A classmate states that igneous rock must always become sedimentary rock next, according to the rock cycle. Explain why this statement is not correct?

That is because igneous rock is a mineral and compact rock, which is pretty less porous, not providing enough space for water or trees to grow in and cause chemical weathering on the rock in order to degrade it. Those pores would also delay the physical weathering mostly caused by temperature changes.
