What do you think?
I don't know :(
I think it is either c or D
Yep, good job eliminating A and B.
What do we do to the exponents when we divide?
Hint: When we MULTIPLY them, we add the exponents.
we subtract the exponents
Dividing would be the opposite.
right, so if we divide we subtract the exponents so the answer is D
Yep!
But D says to add them.
@kool_22
D says the issue is that the exponents were added during division
Um, no..it's asking for the explanation..so it should be C, like you said, we subtract when dividing. @kool_22
it says what is the first incorrect step @iGreen
Yes, but in Option D they don't add the exponents..
It's asking WHY it's incorrect..and it's incorrect because we subtract exponents when we divide.
Just trust me on this.
They added the exponents, and they didn't add them correctly..they were supposed to subtract the x's exponents together and subtract the y's exponents together. But they added x to y and y to x.
alrighty then I trust you. =) so it is C right? @iGreen I will let you know if it is wrong or right but I am starting to see your reasoning and you might be right.
