Groundwater causes erosion by dissolving solid rock. This is because groundwater is acidic, when rain falls through the atmosphere it encounters carbon dioxide,CO2, and they combine to make carbonic acid, this water gets to the ground and travels through the soil cracking it. Groundwater has dissolved minerals in it, which can get deposited and form stalagmites or stalactites on the ceiling or ground.
