@Hero

OpenStudy (onepieceftw):

Have you tried solving the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure how.

OpenStudy (onepieceftw):

Alright, you need to isolate x on one side of the equation. 2x+4=-3x+14 Add 3x to both sides subtract 4 from both sides Now we have 5x=10 Then divide both sides by 5 and you have x=2 Now you can identify where splatt and fizzle went wrong in their calculations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He added four when he was supposed to subtract.

OpenStudy (onepieceftw):

Yes, and what did fizzle do wrong?

OpenStudy (onepieceftw):

Keep in mind that you could have solved it by subtracting 2x instead of adding 3x. You're just trying to isolate x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um.. not sure.

OpenStudy (onepieceftw):

Look at his second to last step

OpenStudy (onepieceftw):

His mistakes are in step 4 and 6. What are they?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He added 5 when the term was -5x.

OpenStudy (onepieceftw):

Yes, but he made a mistake before that. 4-14=12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im sorry, I dont really know. Can you explain?

OpenStudy (onepieceftw):

When it got to 4=-5x+14 he should have subtracted 14 and gotten -10=-5x but instead he put -12=-5x
