OpenStudy (mven):

Please help. Solving polynomial equations. 0=x^3+8x^2+17x+10

OpenStudy (rational):

By inspection -1 is a zero Next divide x^3+8x^2+17x+10 by x+1 using synthetic division and get the compressed quadratic

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

how did you inspect! evaluating -1

OpenStudy (rational):

its not hard to work -1 + 8 -17 + 10 in head

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

I'm not good at arithmetic haha :)

OpenStudy (mven):

How would you devide it? Biggest problem I'm having.

OpenStudy (rational):

familiar with synthetic division ?

OpenStudy (mven):

They want long division

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

have you done something of this sort

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

|dw:1427995156724:dw| where do you have difficulty

OpenStudy (mven):

Im not sure where to start it off.

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

okay so what should multiply x to get x^3?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

by what should we multiply x to get x^3, darn my language fails me

OpenStudy (mven):

Lol. Should multiply x

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

i get bored if there is no cooperation so can you cooperate with me here to finish this

OpenStudy (mven):

I am?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

sorry the battery was drained lol

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

ok answer me what do we need to get to x^3

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

x times what gives x^3?

OpenStudy (mven):

I am on here because i am not the smartest person at math. Im sorry if i dont understand something. My teacher is one of those people who doesn't teach us anything and just gives us homework and expects us to know it.

OpenStudy (mven):

X tomes 3

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

eh I'm not smart either!

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

no that would be 3x not x^3

OpenStudy (mven):

Lol smart in mayh at least. And times not tomes

OpenStudy (mven):

X by its self 3 times

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

eh ok i will make sure i don 't repeat that lol my hands don't work with my mind lol

OpenStudy (mven):

Lol. Btw never use this site on a phone.

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

eh goood so x.x.x= x^3 smart move we already have one x so we need to multiply by two more x's x.(x.x)=x.x^2 yes

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

so we needed to multiply by x^2 let's put it there

OpenStudy (mven):

Yeah. So it woulf then be 8x^2+17x+10?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

|dw:1427995894326:dw|

OpenStudy (mven):

Leaving 8+17x+10

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

no just follow the x^2 we just found we put it on top jut like we do with the usual long division for numbers then we multiply x+1 by x^2 the result we put it under the expression we have subtract and put the remainder exactly like we do with the usual long division

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

sorry somehow the website is slow and brings me headache now lol

OpenStudy (mven):

Lol. I know. Its being the same for me. Keeps jumping all over.

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

|dw:1427996259767:dw|

OpenStudy (mven):

Ahh. Makes sense.

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

now wwe need to multiply by 7x to get 7x^2 because 7x times x is 7x^2

OpenStudy (mven):

Then leaving 17x+10 so we should multiply by 17x?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

|dw:1427996426074:dw|

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

see what i did

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

now we are left with 10x+10 what do we do next?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

we always look at 10x the other part we don't look at it that much we look at 10x so to know what we need to multiply by

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

I'm irritated now about the website! i hate when i explain and it is going like this
