What equation is solved by the graphed systems of equations? https://lss.brainhoney.com/Resource/22181743,AD2,0,C,3,0/Assets/72228_53b5b11e/06_03_09.jpg

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

A. 3x + 4 = 5x - 10 B. 3x - 4 = 5x - 10 C. 3x + 4 = 5x + 10 D. 3x - 4 = 5x + 10

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@campbell_st Can you check if I'm right? I think it's C

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

simply have a look and decide where the lines cut the y-axis.... what do you think...?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

i can't really tell...

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

just read of the scale.... and use your best guess...

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

I think it crosses the y-axis at (0,1)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well the major ticks are in units of 5.... do one line cuts the y-axis just below 5... any guesses..?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

yeah it's right below 5, which is why i think the answer is C. am i right?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so by saying its y = 4 it means you have eliminated B and D as answers the general form of the line is y = mx + b so you have 1 line as y = mx + 4 now look at the other line and tell me where it cuts the y-axis..?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

(0, 10)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

your choices are between A and C are you sure its at 10...? so its above 4

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

just look at the graph again

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

remember the y-axis is the vertical one.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's at 10...what is it?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so by what you are saying the graph looks like |dw:1428017718136:dw|

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

|dw:1428017856700:dw|

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Oh oops....so -10?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so the 2nd line is in the form y = ax - 10 y = mx + 4 so which answer...?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

A?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

remember you are only choosing between A and C

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

that's correct
