HW due in 30 MIN. Need help ASAP!!!! Express f(x) in the form a(x − h)^2 + k. f(x) = 2x^2 − 12x + 19

OpenStudy (anonymous):

choices?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

do you know how to complete the square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are no choices and i got an answer but webassign says it's wrong

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

we can solve it without relying on options or choices :)

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

show me how you would complete the square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 2(x-6)^2-17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just youtubed it so I know I did it the way instructed

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

will you show me how you did that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay sure. she said I needed to complete the square so from the first formula I did this. I grouped these together (2x^2-12x+36) +19-36 Then that turned into my answer after factoring

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got the 36 from taking (12/2)^2

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

okay that is not the proper way... you jumped and skipped one too many steps :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the 19 is in the original. and the negative 36 is to "cancel the 36 in the middle"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll see if I can find the video and show you

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

would you like to use the QUALIFIED HELPERS option? we can pretty much get to the bottom of this problem as if you are taking a lesson with a professor present and assisting you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't want to pay for that?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

ah okay... that is unfortunate :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm a college kid, I don't have much money to spare. Life is unfortunate yes
