OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I think we should be able to edit comments we make.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Many times I have made a spelling mistake, or typed the wrong/word or number. It's a pain to then have to explain what you meant, or have to delete it, and retype it.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I have seen people disagree, saying that people could go back and change something, so that it wouldn't be something that breaks the CoC. So what if mods could be able to see it before it was edited? Then it would be easier to fix something. And the mods would know what it said before.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@iGreen @inkyvoyd @inowalst @Nnesha @nothingwasthesame @Preetha @AnswerMyQuestions @k_lynn @Kainui @kidrah69 @blurbendy What do you guys think of this idea?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Yeah i agree having to keep deleting is a pain :(

Nnesha (nnesha):

PROS &B CONS

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@kidrah69 yes it is, and sometimes confuses the users I'm helping when I say "oh I meant..." and then they don't get what I'm saying, then I have to explain everything again. It takes up time and like I said, it can be confusing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't need it though. I can easily type and not make mistakes. :3

OpenStudy (nothingwasthesame):

yeah i have dyslexia so the words lol always get messed up so this would really help me

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@AnswerMyQuestions at least you don't need it :) Some people, like me, aren't the best at typing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:3

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yes @nothingwasthesame, lot's of people say something like that. It can be hard when you write a long poem or something, but then there's a mistake in it. It's so annoying!! The you either have to say what you meant, or retype it. It takes too much time, and I would rather just be able to edit that little mistake I made.

OpenStudy (nothingwasthesame):

lol yeah and @horsegirl27 you've read my stuff how i had to put blah blah* to fix it

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

PROS: -Can change small typos and grammar/spelling errors -Can change the wording of something you said so it's easier to understand -Won't have to delete and retype -With the suggestion I made, mods will still be able to see it -Won't take forever to fix something CONS: -Users won't be able to see the previous comment, to report them (if they didn't already see it) -Might be abused (idk how though) Can't think of any others right now :P

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yes @nothingwasthesame and before I read the correction you make, at first I'm confused by what you meant.

OpenStudy (nothingwasthesame):

and with the cons before you change as you said @horsegirl27 we could get a mod or ambi to see it first or whatever you were thinking

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I like this idea ;) I mess up when I am typing A LOT so editing a comment would be very helpful :)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@satellite73 @saifoo.khan @jaynator495

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@Baby_Bear69 @bohotness @phi @paki

OpenStudy (paki):

nice idea...

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

thx

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Any additions to the pros/cons list?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. good idea

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

This has been asked billions of times, yet sadly, it was never implemented.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DO IT!!

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Well, see, I'm not the one that does it. The Administrators do it, not me:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know,lol, i am talking to everyone

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Be a little clear next time, lol;)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I totally agree though guys, this is an idea that should totally be considered, I think.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@Preetha what do you think of this idea?

OpenStudy (funnyguy2):

I like how I can do that on the Minecraft Forum. Unfortunately, I can't do that here.

OpenStudy (funnyguy2):

Many people keep saying this.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yes, and I agree with all of them. It would be a very useful addition to OS

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@sleepyjess @TheSmartOne @nobrainiachere

OpenStudy (nobrainiachere):

And I was tagged why?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

So you can either agree or disagree.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Disagree.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

A lot more cons than pros. I even asked this at once point of time lol.

OpenStudy (nobrainiachere):

This is where the copy\quote extension comes in.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

OpenStudy values the learning process. So if you make a mistake, you learn from it and correct it. :P

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

That's why we have the EDIT button.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And how it can be abused, Someone goes to the post and replies first with like "gsdgsgs" Someone else comes on the post and helps the asker. The spammer then edits his reply to the correct answer. People who later come on the post will medal the first user for replying with the correct answer and for being the first one :P

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @YanaSidlinskiy That's why we have the EDIT button. \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) Notice that she means comments in the thread. Not the original post.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

I meant *need the Edit Buttong*XD Think right.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Sure a buttong will work :P

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes, as you can see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm. I see too many cons. I disagree with the idea.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Well, on my list I have just 2 cons, do u have any more? I'd like to know so I can think of solutions for them

OpenStudy (funnyguy2):

Is this where people are heading now so we can have another closed question?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

And I agree, with what you said, but maybe a mod will be able to fix it

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

(with what all of u said)

OpenStudy (funnyguy2):

i mean deleted question

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I suggested this before, but mods disagreed. People could edit comments that weren't \(good\) and pretend like nothing bad happened.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Like tso said, more cons than pros. I personally agree.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

If you make a grammar mistake, then I would delete and retype, or just leave it.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

As long as the other person reading it gets it, then it's fine.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

But like I said, deleting and retyping and take too long. The other person might not always understand.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

*can

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I get what you mean, but editing comments is confusing for mods to monitor.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Ok, I've been making rules and stuff, changing the pros and cons list, I will post it here soon. I will show that it's worth it.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I'm just saying that it could be abused by spammers. I like your idea though. Just giving my input on what \(could\) happen. :)

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

To avoid any cons, implement an edit history. To see the previous comment before it was edited.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

^ That's the same as deleting a post and retyping right? xD

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

No not at all.

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

There should be an option to see the original comment before edited.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Ahh I see.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

No, because you'll be selecting that specific comment, and just changing one thing. But then you will still be able to see the original

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

Yeah.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Then people can't easily say " gsdgsgs" and come back

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

how about if a spammer decides to edit it like a hundred times? xDDD

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Limit 2 edits per question.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Talk to a mod if u need to change it again.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Also, if someone commented something random, then came back, people would see it before it was changed, and it would be removed.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Don't you think those are valid?

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

@e.mccormick :)

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

There really aren't any real cons to it.

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

It's on a lot of websites and forums, I don't see why we can't have it.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

There are cons, but really, there are cons to EVERYTHING if you think about it. If someone thought of a list, this website may have more cons than pros!

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Is it that hard to just copy the comment and deleting it and then edit it?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

It might be too high on a post for people to understand

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Sometimes I say something, it gets pushed higher and higher, i delete it and retype, people are confused

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

But it's not necessary, we just need an edit feature.

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

its the same thing ._.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

There's an edit feature to questions, that don't really need the edit feature, why can't we edit a comment.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

It's not the same, the original comment won't move

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

Having to repost it messes up the timeline as well, so you can't realy know when it was originally posted.

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

@horsegirl27 yes because you cant close a question and repost it.

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Its considered spam.

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

And someone might post a reply beofore you repost, which is confusing.

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ik, but does someone want your comment repeatedly popping up on the thread, because u need to keep editing it?

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

As long as mods can see the edited replies' original, I don't see a fault in it.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

See, I agree

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

@horsegirl27 thats why we have a delete button
