Me gusta esta clase. ¿Cuál prefieres tú? Yo prefiero ésa. Yo prefiero aquél. Yo prefiero aquella. Yo prefiero esta.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Confused with this. I would have thought the answer would be 'yo prefiero esta' (with an accent over the a in esta) but that's not an option. So....any ideas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

srry i have no idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Explanation? (sorry, I just like to double-check the reasoning...)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because C seems to be the least likely response in my opinion - there's no accent mark to make it a reflexive pronoun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My bad its A...because its say they like that class...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, see. That makes more sense. :) Thank you! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem :D

OpenStudy (alfonso-o):

Hello there! Sorry to say this... :( But really, if I may... it should be C. In fact, this is because of a spelling rule, which says *este, ese, aquel* and all of their variants (feminine and plural included) are never accented. Well, I hope this helps in some way! =) Blessings

OpenStudy (alfonso-o):

That's actually a quite recent spelling rule (I think it didn't exist 5 years ago), but indeed: Este es mejor. --> pronoun has no accent Este libro es mejor. --> adjective has no accent either

OpenStudy (alfonso-o):

Hi again, @HourglassMage ! I just thought I'd add a link explaining this spelling rule: http://www.studyspanish.com/lessons/demonstratives.htm You'll find that info included in the "Note" at the end of the page! Hope it helped! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A was correct, I already submitted the quiz But thank you for the detailed replies! I use StudySpanish all the time - it's very helpful. :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need the accent mark because it's standing in for the direct object. Although, I'm still not quite sure why B wouldn't work...I suppose the meaning of aquel is too different from the meaning of esta. Either way, got it right, so I suppose it doesn't matter.
