More general questions about exponential functions.

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

Natural base exponential functions are with base \(e\). I guess I'm just wondering what \(e\) IS...

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

@Nnesha

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

Nevermind... I got it. it's ~2.71828

OpenStudy (bibby):

it's a constant. what do you mean what is e? do you want a definition through limits?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

well in the equation \(A(t)=P*e^{rt}\) what does it mean by Principal (P)?

OpenStudy (bibby):

the starting amount. for example $10,000 at 5% for 12 months

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

So, it'd be \(A(12)=10,000 * e^{0.05*12}\)?

OpenStudy (bibby):

I think t might be in years, I'm looking it up

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

ohhh so I'd have to put 1

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

it is, that's what it says in my textbook.

OpenStudy (bibby):

yeah, 1

OpenStudy (bibby):

you got it

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

okay. thanks.

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

It's hard learning things on my own, and I don't want to learn the wrong thing then unlearn it, you know? XD So I really appreciate it
