OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

Can someone explain logarithm to me?

Nnesha (nnesha):

properties ??

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

well the key concept in my textbook is confusing. it says that A logarithm base b of a positive number x satisfies the following definition: \[For~b>0,~ b \neq0,~\log_bx=y~if~and~only~if~b^y=x.\]

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

can you explain that to me?

Nnesha (nnesha):

quotient rule\[\huge\rm log_b y - \log_b x = \log_b \frac{ x }{ y}\] to condense you can change subtraction to division product rule \[\huge\rm log_b x + \log_b y = \log_b( x \times y )\] addition ----> multiplication power rule \[\huge\rm log_b x^y = y \log_b x\]

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

that's Greek to me. I haven't even gotten past the key concept yet XD

Nnesha (nnesha):

okay exponential to log form \[\huge\rm \log_b x = y \] |dw:1428184264691:dw| base >0 common log base to 10 wait...
