what should i study for the CUNY Writing test.

I would say you should take a practice cuny writing test if you can
Whatever you find hard on the practice test you should focus on to study. you should study what you have a hard time understanding in writing.

You should also try to look for tips in creating outlines, and brainstorming. That can help when you are prewriting for this essay.
Lastly, before the test you should try to actually write an essay or two, with the same time limit that the CUNY essay has so you can get a feel for what your in for and figure out your plan for the essay, like will you do an outline before the essay, and how long do you want to spend on prewriting and brainstorming.

And remember, having a negative outlook before you start the test won't help you at all so stay calm and positive through the test, if you gave it your best and tried your hardes tthan that's all you can give.
