• What is the Doppler Effect? How can the Doppler Effect be useful for a forensic investigation involving a shooting? • If you found a firearm at a crime scene, what steps would you take in order to transport the weapon to the lab? This is for my forensic science class.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

This topic is hard to explain without lots of diagrams, so it's better if you watch a youtube video on it like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-Uhiz0Tilk

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

I took that class last year. I can help with the Doppler Effect. But can't remember the firearm handling procedures.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I'd like to know when you find out

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I have a few hunch based on my understanding of waves, but I am not sure of its validity and proven results. Basically, if a shooting took place in a room, the doppler effect can be used to map the shooting based on the imprints of the sound wave on the walls or materials in that particular room. I think you can use the idea with the grooves and indentations in the old music plaques. As the pin moves through these grooves, it creates specific sounds. With that in mind, a shoot out crime can be replicated based on those grooves created by the gun shots in the objects around the room.
