What was the purpose of passing the Neutrality Act of 1935? By invoking the act, the United States could abstain from participating directly in a foreign conflict. The Neutrality Act of 1935 allowed the United States to play a larger role in the League of Nations. Once the act was invoked, the United States was in a better position to find a diplomatic solution to a conflict. Congress could only provide arms for a state that was defending itself against an attack.
