Electrons are the negatively charged particles that move quickly in their orbits around the nucleus which is made up of neutrons and protons. The mass of an electron is ~5.4x10-5 times as small as the mass of a proton or neutron. Neutrons have no charge, protons have a positive charge, electrons have a negative charge. There are always the same number of protons and electrons for the purpose of this question.
