@iGreen What is the lateral area of the prism? http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1576000_1576500/1576121/1/040632ff13062c14e8153009e449ef847b666cce/MS_IMB-1400114-1121002.jpg A. 300 cm2 B. 390 cm2 C. 195 cm2 D. 220 cm2

@Conqueror

@SolomonZelman

@Michele_Laino

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

the requested area, is: A = 2*(3*8+8*6+3*6)=...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

180

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

that's right!

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

please wait that is the total area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

surface area

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

the lateral area is: \[\large A = 2 \times (6 \times 8 + 3 \times 6) = ...?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

132

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

that's right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so thats my answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OOPS i forgot sorry

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

yes! that is your right answer!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have options

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

\[\large A = 2 \times (6 \times 8 + 3 \times 6) = 132\]

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

what are your options?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. 300 cm2 B. 390 cm2 C. 195 cm2 D. 220 cm2

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

ok! We have to keep in mind that our area is measured in inches^2, so we have to express our area in cm^2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so this is how to do suface area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*Surface Area

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

now, we have 1 inch = 2.54 cm so the sides of your prism are: 8*2.54= 20.32 cm 6*2.54= 15.24 cm and 3*2.54 = 7.62 cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so add the answers together?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

so the requested area is: \[\large A = 2 \times (15.24 \times 20.32 + 7.62 \times 15.24) = ...?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

851.6112

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

yes!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is ?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

yes I think, nevertheless, it is different from all of your options. I can assure that my computation is right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe we did something wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@texaschic101

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

Please wait, I'm checking my computations

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I got the same result

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jigglypuff314 @whpalmer4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

HELP PLEASE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is anyone going to help

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I am getting the same answers as @Michele_Laino :/ @5sauselover21 Please check that you have given then correct picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think lateral area should only be considered all the sides, except for the one at bottom and top.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG its the wrong picture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am so sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the correct picture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im so sorry forgive me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Having that accounted the total area in inches would be \[A=(293*6)+2(8*6)=122\], from which multiplying by 2.54 gives 309.9 which is approximately 300cm^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Michele_Laino can you help me with the correct picture i will open up a new thread
