need help plz?

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

\[4\sqrt{6}/\sqrt(30\]

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

i have to rationalize the denominator

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

@dtan5457

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

someone plz help me figure this out

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

@aprilbarrios455

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you might want to multiply by something then ... as per the basic lesson material

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

huh?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your lesson plan covers how to rationalise ... what process does it lay out for you?

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

i have to rationalize the denominator

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and from your lesson material, how would you suggest we go about that?

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

Multiply Both Top and Bottom by a Root. Sometimes we can just multiply both top and bottom by a root: ... Multiply Both Top and Bottom by the Conjugate. There is another special way to move a square root from the bottom of a fraction to the top ... we multiply both top and bottom by the conjugate of the denominator. Rationalize the Denom

OpenStudy (amistre64):

first one should be appropriate

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sqrt(30) * sqrt(30) = 30 so i would suggest multiplying top and bottom by sqrt(30) and simplify

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

so i would do 4 x sqr(30) and sqrt(6) x sqrt(30)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

in general .. \[\frac{a\sqrt b}{\sqrt c}\] \[\frac{a\sqrt b}{\sqrt c}*\frac{\sqrt c}{\sqrt c}\] \[\frac{a\sqrt b\sqrt c}{c}\] \[\frac{a\sqrt {bc}}{c}\]

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

ok everything multiply by sqrt 30

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes, but recall that (xy)*z is NOT the same as (xz) * (yz)

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

ok so i got 24sqrt(5)

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

and 30

OpenStudy (amistre64):

let me dbl chk that 4 sqrt(6) sqrt(30) --------------- 30 4 sqrt(180) ----------- 30 2 sqrt(180) ----------- 15 2 sqrt(9*4*5) ----------- 15 2*3*2 sqrt(5) ----------- 15 4 sqrt(5) --------- 5

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or simply 4 sqrt(6) ------- sqrt(30) 4 sqrt(6) ------- sqrt(6*5) 4 sqrt(6) ----------- sqrt(6) sqrt(5) 4 ------- sqrt(5) 4 sqrt(5) --------- 5

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):

so the answer is 4sqrt 5 ----------------------------- over 5

OpenStudy (thehollywoodstud):
