Why was a weak national government created under the Articles of Confederation?

OpenStudy (godmod360):

Well remember they just fought a war for independence and in the aftermath of that war they wanted to certify that this would never happen again so they wanted not to place much power in the central government so that tyranny would not arise and thus they put all the power in the states

The articles gave the government no separation of powers. The government was too weak, the Articles left much of the power to the states (if I remember correctly, states basically went by their own state constitution). Congress didn't have the power to tax. Hope this helps . Can I get a medal and fan me if this helps? :)
