Select the factors of 6ab + 3ay - 2bx - xy. (3a - x) (2b + y) (3a - y)(2b + x) (2a - x)(3b + y) (2a - y)(3b + x)

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

do you know how to factor by grouping?

I think its A.....

I think its A.....

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

basically, take the first two terms (6ab + 3ay) and pick what they both have in common. they both have an a and three can fit into both of them so factor out 3a. 6ab/3a = 2b and 3ay/3a = y so you get (2b + y) 3a(2b+y) then take the next two terms (-2bx - xy) and do the same thing: they both have a negative 1 and they both have an x so factor out -x. -2bx/-x = 2b and -xy/-x = y so you get (2b + y) -x(2b + y) take the two terms you factored out and put them together (3a - x) and the factors you got from both groups (2b + y) and those are your factors: (3a - x) and (2b + y) so yes a is correct
