What was the hiker's average velocity during part C of the hike? A. 6 km/h west B. 4.0 km/h south C. 10 km/h south west D. 0.10 km/h north http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1357500_1358000/1357619/1/c08f9b06e1a4a6a86101eef8f4952090ef8fd57c/MS_PHYS_SCI_286558.jpg

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

To find an average velocity, you need a distance and a time. What distance was traveled in part C? How much time did it take to travel part C? Then divide the distance by the time to find the average velocity.

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

So 6 divided by 90?

@Godlovesme

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Where did you get 90 from? 6 is correct. You need to divide 6 miles by a time. What was the time used for travel in part C?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

How much time is there between 9:45 am and 10:45 am?

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Oh well I chose A as my answer and i thought there was 90 minutes between 9:45 and 10:45

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Really? Isn't it exactly 1 hour between 9:45 am and 10:45 am? And isn't 1 hour 60 minutes, not 90? Also, the choices have all velocities in km/h. There are no minutes there, so keep the time in hours. Don't convert to minutes. 6 km in 1 hour = 6 km/h Since the direction is west, answer is 6 km/h west

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Ohhhhh okay thanks! ^-^

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You're welcome.

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

I'm sorry I forgot to give you a medal huh?
