Do you have answer choices?
OpenStudy (desiraem):
A) The mean decreases by 2.75.
B) The mean increases by 2.75.
C) The mean increases by 3.25.
D) There are no outliers.
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
To find the Mean:\[(18 + 38 + 38+40+44+44+44+46+48)/9=40\]
OpenStudy (desiraem):
okay

Can you tell me what the Outlier is @desiraem
OpenStudy (desiraem):
is it 48?
OpenStudy (desiraem):
i'm not sure of what an outlier is sorry.
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
Its ok, an Outlier is a number that is "outside" of the other numbers.
Example: Of the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10, 10 is the Outlier because it is "far away" from the rest.
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
So, now what is the Outlier of all the points?

@desiraem
OpenStudy (desiraem):
50?
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
Not quite, the black points are the numbers were talking about. The Outlier is 18 because it is "far away" from 38, 44, and 48.
OpenStudy (desiraem):
Ohhhh! i understand now.
OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):
Yay ^-^ so now we find the mean again, but this time we don't include 18
