Medal A couple is having a difficult time conceiving, so they decide to see a fertility doctor and take some fertility drugs to increase their probability of conceiving. Soon after, they discover they are pregnant. During the first ultrasound, the technician reveals that she is carrying quadruplets - 4 fraternal twins! Because there are four babies in the womb, the technician is unable to tell the gender of the babies. (a) Find the probability that the quadruplets will all be girls. Express your answer as a fraction or an exact decimal - do not round.

(b) What is the probability that the couple will have 1 boy and 3 girls? (c) What is the probability that the youngest three children will be male?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So first were gonna start with A. How many baby's are in the womb?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and we want them all to be girls correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you would have 4 babies in the womb and you want all 4 to be girls you would put that into a fraction. So if i have 4 pop tarts and i want them all strawberry i would have 4/4 strawberry pop tarts so what would this problem have in the fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 4/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets see is it answer choices or written out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think the answer is 4/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because what if they have a boy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it really couldn't be because, if there are 4 babies then they want all 4 to be girls for this problem so it would be 4/4 or 1 whole. Number 2 would be 1/4 or 0.25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and number 3 is 3/4 or 0.75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah can i get a medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the answer for part a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. is 4/4 or 1 whole. B. is 1/4 or 0.25. And C. is 3/4 or 0.75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so can i get a medal now?
