Question

Describe the impact of the McCarthy Hearings on the civil rights of American citizens.

Answer 1

The McCarthy trials spurred a feeling of suspicion within the American people. The trials pitted neighbor against neighbor and created a seemingly cannibalistic need to tear others down in order to protect themselves. Thus, many innocent people were accused of communism and black-listed.
